Netplay emulates local multiplayer allowing for players across the globe to play the same game as if they were in the same room. Out of convenience, handheld consoles that required link cable or wireless within a small distance in the same room between two units will be considered local multiplayer as well. This section will cover consoles that originally had local multiplayer, also known as couch multiplayer, where multiple controllers were hooked to the same console. To do that, follow the Port Forwarding Guide For Netplay. You should note that some emulators and clients will require you to forward your ports. Some emulators still register input from keyboards while you're chatting on separate chat windows. It's highly recommended to use a controller.Try not to move the emulator window around, or switch focus to windows other than the chat/Kaillera window and emulator, or you risk desyncing the game. When using netplay, make sure not to have anything downloading (torrents, YouTube videos, etc.).Do not be discouraged and try again until it works. It sometimes takes several consecutive tries for the game to stay synced well enough to enjoy some multiplayer action.Choppy/stuttery gameplay is also very common, and sometimes there is controller input lag. 2.1.3 Steam Remote Play Together (beta key)īefore you begin, here are some things to consider:.Personally I had Reicast crashing to desktop every time until I sorted all this out, and once I recopied the original bios as above, Reicast began running even better than Redream. If it doesn't show the Dreamcast splash screen, it means Redream is booting the "fake" bios. Make sure the Dreamcast splash screen shows on boot even in Redream. Rename them and confirm there are no typos, then try to run your DC cores. Make a new dc folder in your system directory, and place two completely fresh copies of each of your original bios files in there. So the only sure way to clear up all this confusion is to have a confirmed backup of your original Dreamcast bios, then DELETE your whole "dc" folder. ![]() So just because you have files with those names in your system/dc folder, doesn't actually mean you have the right files. ![]() And Redream's proprietary bios don't work as well with all games as the original Sega bios. What makes this even more confusing is that Redream auto-generates "fake" proprietary bios with the names boot.bin and flash.bin if it doesn't find files with those names on first startup. Therefore if you're trying to get both cores working, you need to make redundant copies of your original bios files so that your "system/dc" folder contained all four file names: Reicast requires "dc_boot.bin" and "dc_flash.bin" while Redream requires just "boot.bin" and "flash.bin". This detail is easy to miss in the documentation, and I believe a few early posts on the Redream core quoted its filenames incorrectly. After rigorous testing, against Reicast and Redream crashes I've determined that each Dreamcast core requires a different pair of filenames for the bios. ![]()
